Feature Introduction
The instrument is designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements specified in T0604-2011, “Penetration Test for Asphalt,” as outlined in JTG E20-2011, “Test Procedures for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures in Highway Engineering.” It is suitable for determining the penetration of road petroleum asphalt, modified asphalt, and the residual penetration of liquid petroleum asphalt or emulsified asphalt after evaporation, under low-temperature conditions. With the optional accessories purchased, it can also measure the cone penetration of substances such as paraffin wax and lubricating grease. This instrument finds wide application in the food industry, highway engineering, and other industrial sectors.
I. Main Technical Features
1. The instrument employs computer control technology to automatically perform the penetration test, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements.
2. The instrument is equipped with a low-temperature constant-temperature water bath, with temperature control accuracy reaching ±0.1℃, meeting the constant-temperature requirements within the range of (5.0 to 100.0)℃.
3. The lifting mechanism features a novel design and offers effortless, smooth adjustment.
4. By separately purchasing different configurations such as standard needles, sample dishes, thermometers, and weights, the equipment can meet the requirements of national standards GB/T 4509-1998 and GB/T 4509-2010.
The most distinctive feature of this instrument is that it is equipped with a low-temperature constant-temperature water bath, which can meet the requirements for low-temperature testing. It also features advanced mechanical and circuit designs, enabling fully automatic completion of the needle penetration test.

DF-6 Needle Penetration Tester
Operating Procedures and Usage & Maintenance Instructions
1. Place the glass container of the needle penetration tester 30–50 cm above the water bath. Add water into the glass container of the needle penetration tester until the water level submerges the lower inlet port but remains below the upper outlet port. Gently tap the inlet port’s hose to expel any air, and continuously add water to maintain the water level.
2. When the water level no longer changes, turn on the power switch and the circulation switch. The pump will start working, continuously adding water into the glass container to maintain the water level. Observe the glass container carefully to ensure that the water is circulating before proceeding to the next step.
3. Use the constant-temperature water bath controller to set the desired temperature, and simultaneously turn on the “Cooling” switch.
4. Move the lifting frame up and down to the appropriate position.
6. Set the test duration.
7. Press the “Start” button, and the standard needle and needle rod will be inserted into the asphalt. The instrument will display the penetration depth data. Once the specified time has elapsed, the instrument will automatically lock. The value displayed at this point is the penetration depth reading.
