Machinery used in preventive maintenance of cast-in-place asphalt pavement.

Pressure-type crack-sealing machines employ manual operation for crack sealing. Although this method can prevent rainwater from penetrating the pavement base and slow down further crack development, it delivers excellent sealing results, thereby extending the service life of the pavement and enhancing both the safety and comfort of vehicles traveling on it. Such machines should primarily be equipped with a pressure-control device and a heating or insulation system for the sealing material. To prevent blockage of the spray gun hose, appropriate heating and insulation measures must also be implemented. Domestically produced models include trailer-mounted crack-sealing machines manufactured by Anshan Senyuan and Beijing Zhenglutong, as well as hand-push crack-sealing machines made by Nanjing Shuangliyuan.

Compaction of pourable asphalt mixtures

Immediately after the paving and leveling of the poured asphalt mixture, the road surface should be inspected. Any irregularities should be promptly adjusted manually, followed by thorough and uniform compaction.

What is the relationship between penetration and softening point?

Penetration: The depth to which a standard cone—typically loaded with 150 grams, though sometimes specified at 100 grams—penetrates into a grease sample that has been kept at a constant temperature of 25°C within 5 seconds. Softening Point: A steel ball of known mass is placed on a metal ring filled with the test sample. Under specified heating conditions, the steel ball is allowed to fall from a certain height into the sample. The temperature at which the steel ball just touches the lower metal stopper is taken as the softening point, expressed in degrees Celsius (℃). This refers to the temperature at which asphalt reaches a specific viscosity under particular experimental conditions.

4 Important Notes for the Penetration Test

(1) The precision and allowable tolerances specified for the penetration softening point test are critical parameters. In this method, the precision requirements are formulated as closely as possible to the internationally accepted approach of expressing repeatability and reproducibility. Repeatability testing refers to the condition where, within a short period and in the same laboratory, the same operator using the same instrument on the same sample performs the test procedure more than twice; the error between the resulting test results should not exceed the specified allowable tolerance. Reproducibility testing refers to the condition where, in two or more different laboratories, separate operators using their own instruments and following the same test procedure perform the test on the same sample; the resulting test results—
