A Brief Analysis of the Operating Procedures for the Asphalt Penetration Tester

Today, the editor is here to walk you through the operating procedures for an asphalt testing instrument—the asphalt penetration tester—hoping that this will be of some help to you.
1. Add an appropriate amount of water to the sink, turn on the power, and the left-hand air window will display the penetration value (which is 0 at startup). The right-hand window will display a 0.1-second electronic clock.
2. Selection of Experiment Time and Temperature: When the instrument is turned on, it automatically sets the experiment time to 5 seconds and the temperature to 25.0℃. To check the settings, first press the “Set” key. The “Set” indicator light will illuminate along with the time indicator light, and the right-hand display window will automatically show “5S.” Then, press the “Time/Temperature” key; the temperature indicator light will illuminate, and the right-hand display window will switch to show “25.0℃.” Finally, press the “Set” key again to exit the setting mode.
3. If temperature control is required, place the temperature sensor above the water tank heater, then press the temperature-control button. The temperature-control indicator light will illuminate, and the instrument will automatically regulate the water temperature according to the set values. If temperature control is not needed, do not press the temperature-control button. If the instrument is already in temperature-control mode but you no longer need temperature control, simply press the temperature-control button again to turn off the temperature-control indicator light.
4. When the temperature reaches the required experimental temperature, rotate the lifting nut to bring the probe into proper contact with the specimen surface. Then, press the “Experiment” button to start the penetration test. At this point, the right window displays the actual time elapsed since the experiment was initiated, while the left window shows the measured penetration depth. Once the set time is reached, the instrument automatically stops the penetration and records the experimental results. After a set of experiments is completed, the left window automatically displays the average value. The experimental results can also be retrieved by pressing the “Results” button.
Precautions for the Asphalt Penetration Tester:
1. After the instrument is installed, do not turn the leveling screws too tightly; otherwise, the leveling screws may come into contact with the circuit board, causing the instrument to malfunction.
