Low-Temperature Resistance of Cast-in-Place Asphalt Mixtures

2019-01-23

Cast-in-place asphalt mixture is a type of asphalt concrete classified according to its construction process. It is mixed at high temperatures and exhibits high fluidity when spread, relying on its own flow to achieve compaction and shaping without the need for rolling. Because cast-in-place asphalt mixture differs from conventional asphalt mixtures, it is composed of asphalt with a high content and high viscosity.

The cast-in-place mixture exhibits excellent low-temperature performance. I have conducted split tensile and low-temperature beam bending tests on a cast-in-place mixture with a minimum temperature of -35℃, and the results were significantly better than those of conventional asphalt mixtures. Moreover, there is a trend that the lower the temperature, the better the performance of this mixture.
