What are the functions of an electric compaction tester?

The electric compaction apparatus is manufactured in accordance with the road testing industry standards issued by the Ministry of Transport. Its structure and performance fully meet the requirements for compaction tests, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) compaction tests, and resilient modulus tests specified in the "Highway Geotechnical Testing Specifications." It features two compaction modes: light compaction and heavy compaction.
The electric compaction apparatus is suitable for engineering designs in areas such as highway, railway, water conservancy, and foundation construction. Under a specified compaction effort, the standard compaction method is used to determine the relationship between soil moisture content and dry density, thereby identifying the optimum moisture content and the corresponding maximum dry density of the soil.
Understanding the compaction characteristics of soil is fundamental to controlling soil base compaction at construction sites. The stone specimen module features two functions: light compaction and heavy compaction. The control system, powered by a computer chip, enables automatic counting, automatic shutdown, and automatic cycling during operation.
The electric compaction apparatus is reliable, easy to operate, features evenly distributed hammer marks, and produces high-quality test specimens. It is suitable for geotechnical testing in both laboratory and field settings.
After unpacking, loosen the bolts securing the base, wipe clean all components of the electric compaction device, and place the instrument onto the anchor bolts. Using the workbench as a reference, use a level to ensure the instrument is properly aligned. Once the workbench achieves a levelness of 0.3% in both directions, tighten the anchor bolts to secure the instrument.
Install the compaction hammer, which comes in two types: heavy hammer and light hammer. For light tapping, insert the small hammer core into the hammer cylinder and tighten it securely. For heavy-duty impacts, insert the large hammer into the cylinder and tighten it firmly, then verify that the drop height is correct. This setup allows for testing with three different drop heights and three different levels of hammer head straightness.
During the heavy-load test with the electric compaction apparatus: Use the 5-tooth, 29-tooth, and 22-tooth combinations. To determine which drop height to select, first remove the cover and install or remove the curved tooth ring on the large cam. After selecting the desired drop height, tighten the screw using a screwdriver—make sure it’s securely fastened and does not come loose. Then, reattach the cover, tighten the screws, set the counter to the required number of cycles, and activate the timing function for the compaction cycles.
Each time the counter operates, gently press the reset switch to restart counting from zero.
Adjust the center distance of the worktable. Based on the inner diameter of the test mold, loosen the lock nuts on the bolts before starting work, then place the drop hammer into the test mold.
Then, adjust the 16 bolts to ensure the distance between the hammer’s outer diameter and the inner diameter of the test mold is appropriate, and then tighten the nuts. Before starting the machine, manually lift the rack and verify that the edges of the test mold are not compacted before proceeding with operation.
Before connecting the power, first check whether the power supply to the electric compaction tester is normal. If you hear a continuous “wa...” sound, it means that the phases of the three-phase power supply are connected in reverse; only with the power connected in reverse can the machine function properly. Otherwise, the machine will fail to operate, ensuring its safety. Connect the grounding wire and check all components of the instrument’s power switch and counter. Pay attention to the correct direction—reversing the direction is strictly prohibited.
