Hazards of Cast-in-Place Asphalt Mixtures
1. Acridine: Acridine is irritating to both skin and mucous membranes. Its dust particles and gases can easily trigger sneezing, and contact with the skin may cause itching and a burning sensation.
2. Naphthalene: Naphthalene is a major component of coal tar pitch. Its vapor can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, and damage to the corneal epithelium; when it irritates the skin, it can lead to dermatitis.
3. Anthracenes: Their toxicity is similar to that of acridine. Crude anthracene can cause skin damage and skin cancer lesions.
4. Benzene: Benzene is an important component of coal tar. Benzene vapor can cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, convulsions, and coma in humans.
5. Pyridine: It has a strong drying effect on the skin and can easily cause dermatitis and conjunctivitis. It may even lead to increased respiration and pulse rate, headache, and nausea.
6. Phenols: Primarily phenol, which has a strong corrosive effect on human tissues. When it comes into contact with skin and mucous membranes, it can cause severe burns and lead to inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes.
