By binder: petroleum asphalt mixtures, coal tar asphalt mixtures
By construction temperature: hot-mix hot-lay, cold-mix cold-lay, hot-plate cold-lay
By aggregate particle size: extra-coarse, coarse-grained, medium-grained, fine-grained, sand-grained
By aggregate gradation: continuous, discontinuous
By mixture density: dense-graded, semi-open-graded, and open-graded

Principle of material strength formation: high-temperature shear strength, cohesion, internal friction resistance, and internal friction angle.
