Precautions for the Use and Maintenance of the Asphalt Extensometer

I. Instructions for Use of the Asphalt Extensometer:
1. Add water to the extensometer’s reservoir so that the water surface is at least 35 mm below the top surface of the traction motor’s slide plate.
2. Set the temperature controller to 15°C or 25°C (as specified by the test requirements), and press the “Stir,” “Heat,” or “Cool” switch to bring the water temperature accurately to the set point.
3. Place the sample together with the mold test and glass plate into the tensile slot, and immerse it for at least 45 minutes.

4. Remove the test mold from the glass plate. The holes at both ends of the test mold should be respectively wrapped around the metal posts on the sliding plate and the fixed plate at the end of the groove. Then, remove the side molds and turn off either the “stirring” heating switch or the “cooling” switch.
5. Press the “Start” button, and the extended motor will begin its journey to the supplier, Hebei Dahong Experimental Instrument Co., Ltd.
6. During the test, if asphalt fibers are found floating on the water surface or sinking to the bottom of the tank, salt should be added to the water to adjust its density to match that of the sample, and the test should be repeated. (If the asphalt density is known, salt can be added in advance.)
7. When three samples are broken, the “Count Value” button is pressed one by one. After pressing the button three times, the test automatically stops, and the third count value and the average value are displayed on the monitor, respectively.
8. When the extended motor quickly moves to the top and the specimen has not yet completely fractured, you can stop the test by continuously pressing the “Score” button.
9. When the telescopic motor needs to move backward, the gearbox pin should be pulled out.
At the end of the experiment, the water in the sink should be drained and thoroughly cleaned.
II. Extension Instrument Maintenance and Precautions:
1. After each test, the water in the tank is drained to prevent corrosion of the metal materials and to ensure the accuracy and service life of the instrument.
2. After each test, the asphalt mold must be gently wiped with fine gauze, coated with grease, and placed on a flat surface.
3. Please note: Before using the instrument, the instrument box must be properly grounded to prevent dry deflection.
4. Before using the instrument, oil should be injected through the oil-fill ports at both ends. If the machine produces any unusual noises, it should be immediately turned off and the fault should be rectified before restarting.
