Paving construction of cast-in-place asphalt mixtures

2013-01-16

The paving construction method for cast-in-place asphalt mixtures encompasses comprehensive process control, including the production, transportation, spreading, and stone chip application of cast-in-place asphalt mixtures. The term "cast-in-place asphalt concrete" literally translates to "flowing pavement," reflecting the material's fluidity. During placement, no compaction is required—simply spreading and leveling the mixture suffices to complete the construction. Cast-in-place asphalt concrete belongs to the category of dense-graded asphalt concretes. Its mixture features a high content of fine aggregates, a high proportion of mineral powder, and an elevated asphalt content. The relatively high asphalt content keeps the aggregate particles suspended within the mix. Unlike hot-mix asphalt concrete, cast-in-place asphalt concrete exhibits very low porosity and discontinuous internal voids. As a result, it is impermeable to water and does not suffer from water-induced damage within the pavement layer. With its high asphalt content, cast-in-place asphalt concrete demonstrates excellent resistance to low-temperature cracking while also offering superior waterproofing, durability, and overall structural integrity.
