Pre-use Inspection and Test Preparation for the Asphalt Penetration Tester
2020-04-23
The asphalt penetration tester’s chuck nut securely fastens the penetrometer needle, ensuring that the needle rod and the penetrometer needle are aligned on the same central axis. A displacement sensor detects the penetration process, automatically recording and displaying the penetration depth. The device is equipped with a cold-light illumination system that has no adverse effect on the asphalt surface temperature. A low-temperature water bath is provided for conducting low-temperature penetration tests. An advanced digital temperature sensor ensures highly accurate temperature measurement. The needle and connecting rod are easily disassembled and assembled, making it convenient to measure the needle’s mass. A built-in printer allows direct output of test results. The display features a segment LCD screen. Optional external miniature printers and an RS232 interface module are available for network connectivity with a PC.
The asphalt penetration tester must be placed in a room or shed equipped with a roof and positioned 100 cm away from the walls. After the base of the instrument is properly set up, it should be leveled before the evaporation-condensation chamber is installed. Next, connect the control unit and the cooling water pipes. Before proceeding, confirm that the 380V power supply and the neutral wire are functioning correctly; then, connect the instrument to the power supply using the black wire as the neutral line.
Pre-use inspection of the asphalt penetration tester:
Before using the instrument again after long-distance transportation or prolonged periods of disuse, first perform the necessary inspections and run it briefly to ensure safety and prevent accidents.
Inject trichloroethylene solvent from the solvent port.
Check whether the instrument is functioning properly: Connect the power supply, turn on the operation switch, and then press the impact-vibration and extraction buttons to bring the control section into working mode.
Check whether the centrifuge cup is operating normally. Press the extraction button; at this point, the centrifuge will start rotating at a set speed. Observe its direction of rotation—under normal conditions, the centrifuge should rotate counterclockwise.
Check whether the sprinkler heads inside the spray cover are blocked.
Preparation for the Asphalt Penetration Test:
Remove the sieve mesh, arrange them in ascending order of aperture size from bottom to top, and place the weighed asphalt mixture sample into the topmost sieve.
Place the entire set of sieves onto the funnel of the vibrating frame, cover with the spray lid, and tighten the bolts.
Press the weighed centrifuge tubes into the centrifuge rotor, put on the centrifuge lid, align the vibrator stand, tighten the handle, and insert the flow guide tube into the central hole of the centrifuge lid.
