  What cast-asphalt mixtures are well known for is their high-temperature performance. In fact, cast-asphalt mixtures also exhibit good low-temperature performance. The following is a study on the low-temperature performance of cast-asphalt mixtures.

  The rutting resistance of cast-in-place asphalt mixtures is excellent; hard-bitumen cast-in-place asphalt mixtures exhibit particularly good rutting resistance. The low-temperature cracking performance of cast-in-place mixtures using hard bitumen was tested and compared through low-temperature bending tests and fatigue tests on composite pavement structures for steel bridge decks conducted under gradually decreasing temperatures. High-performance polymer-modified bitumen cast-in-place mixtures demonstrate longer fatigue life and lower fracture temperatures, making them suitable for use in cast-in-place asphalt pavements on steel bridge decks.
