The instrument of the compaction tester consists of two main parts: a mechanical transmission system and a control instrument. The mechanical transmission mechanism comprises an electric motor, a reducer, and a chain drive. The motor drives the reducer, which in turn rotates the sprocket. A stop block on the chain drives the standard hammer to move upward along the guide rod. When the weight strikes the wedge block, it detaches from the stop block on the chain, allowing the weight to fall freely along the guide rod and compact the specimen. The electrical control circuit of the compaction tester uses integrated circuits, and the counter can be preset. The counter can be set arbitrarily within the range of 1 to 999 and features memory function. On the instrument panel, there is a preset switch, a digital display, and start, stop, and reset buttons. The compactor can automatically perform compaction according to a pre-set number of impacts; when the set number is reached, the control circuit is automatically cut off, and the motor shuts down. The mechanical transmission and control systems of the compaction tester are divided into two separate parts, enhancing the overall reliability of the machine. To ensure the reliability of the compactor, all transmission components and weights are housed within the machine casing, and a lever is provided to prevent the compaction head from falling during the loading or unloading of the test mold. The clearance between the compaction hammer and the wall of the test cylinder—typically 3–5 mm—should be checked, using the cylinder wall as the reference. The number of impacts required for setting up the compaction tester is predetermined. Press the start button to begin operation; the digital display on the panel increments with each hammer strike, and the machine automatically stops once the preset number of strikes is reached (thus completing one operational cycle). If repeated compaction is needed, simply repeat the above steps.

Place the compaction machine on a flat, level surface. Connect the cable extending from the main unit to the output port on the rear panel of the controller (10-pin). Connect the power cord to the input port on the rear panel of the controller (4-pin). Plug the power cord into a power source. Press the Digital Setting/Start button on the controller to enter the digital setting mode. Turn the counter dial to set it to 03. Press the Power On/Off button to turn on the power. Press the Digital/Start button again to release it, and the machine will begin operating. After the compaction machine automatically shuts down, if you lift the ram and the wiring is connected correctly, the machine should function normally. However, if the ram falls into the test cylinder, the motor will reverse direction. In this case, simply swap any two live wires on the power plug and try again. The machine will automatically shut down once the ram has been raised to its upper position.
