Operating Procedures for the Asphalt Softening Point Tester
1. Place 800–1000 ml of distilled water in a beaker. Use slightly less water when the room temperature is lower, and slightly more when the room temperature is higher.
2. Adjust the temperature inside the beaker to 5℃ by heating it or placing it in ice water.
3. Place the magnetic stirring bar in the middle of the bottom of the beaker.
4. Place the two specimens into the specimen ring and position the two steel balls in the center of each specimen. Then, place the specimens into a beaker and maintain a constant temperature for at least 15 minutes.
5. Place the beaker into the testing apparatus and plug it into the power outlet.
6. Turn on the power switch and press the “Start” button. Adjust the speed control knob to set the stirrer’s rotation speed to an appropriate level. At the beginning of heating, you can set the stirrer’s rotation speed relatively fast; when the water temperature approaches the softening point, stop rotating the stirrer.
7. When the specimen descends to 25.4 mm, the tester emits a sound, indicating that the test is complete.
8. Press the “Result” button and read the average temperature on the temperature display.
Attention: During the testing process, pressing the “Reset” key is strictly prohibited.
