Instructions for Using the Asphalt Mixture Compactor

2021-09-22

Maintenance and Servicing of Asphalt Mixture Compaction Equipment:
  1. After using the instrument, it should be thoroughly cleaned to keep both the instrument itself and its surrounding environment tidy.
  2. Clean and maintain the chains and gears once a week. Lubricate the lifting mechanism, guide rails, and rotating parts by adding a small amount of No. 20 machine oil per shift.
  3. When the instrument is not in use, it should be covered with a protective cover.
The asphalt mixture compaction tester is primarily used for performing compaction tests on cement-stabilized soils (before cement hydration) and lime-stabilized soils. The compaction process is driven by an electric motor, which significantly reduces the labor intensity for researchers and enhances experimental efficiency. Based on extensive user feedback, our company has spent several years developing this instrument. Drawing on the strengths of both domestic and international models, we have upgraded the original chain-driven mechanism by adopting a rack-and-pinion transmission system, thereby eliminating issues such as hammer drop and difficulty in lifting the hammer. The new design features automatic counting, automatic control, automatic shutdown, and automatic cyclic operation. This instrument is suitable for use by transportation research institutions, colleges and universities, construction companies, laboratories, and field testing sites. It enables accurate determination of the relationship between moisture content and dry density (unit weight) of stabilized soils, allowing for precise identification of the optimal moisture content and maximum dry density.
Characteristics of the Asphalt Mixture Compaction Tester:
The asphalt mixture compaction tester and the geotechnical compaction tester are suitable for design of earthwork filling projects in highways, railways, water conservancy, and building foundations. They employ standardized compaction methods to determine the relationship between the moisture content and dry density of soil under a specified compaction effort, thereby identifying the optimum moisture content and the corresponding maximum dry density of the soil. This information is used to understand the soil’s compaction characteristics and serves as the basis for controlling soil compaction on construction sites.
Instructions for Use of the Asphalt Mixture Compaction Tester:
  1. After each experiment, be sure to clean the machine thoroughly, apply oil to both the test cylinder and the rack, and disconnect the power supply (reconnect it only when you’re ready to resume work).
  2. Regularly inspect fasteners and tighten them promptly if any looseness is detected.
  3. For localized rotation, lubricate once every three months. If the equipment is used frequently, adjust the lubrication interval accordingly and lubricate more often as needed.
